So it sure doesn’t do any harm. But we all know what we should be doing anyway, getting enough sleep, eating well, stopping smoking and limiting the intake of alcohol.

Preparing For Your Face Massage With Us

Before anybody comes to see us for any type of massage, we always recommend they stay hydrated, eat lightly and wear something comfortable.

But if you’re coming for a face massage, there are a few extra things you can do to prepare for your treatment.

Avoid wearing makeup or other products on the day of your massage. They can interfere with the effectiveness of the massage technique, and it also gives your therapist a fresh canvas to work on.

If you’ve got particularly long hair, bring a comfortable band to keep it pulled back, and if you’ve got a favourite product you want us to use, feel free to bring it along too. Though we have got our own extensive list of creams and oils (see below)

Finally, if it’s your first time with us, try to arrive early for a quick consultation and to get settled in.

What to Expect During Your Session

When you arrive at Diamond Thai for a face massage, you can expect to be greeted by one of our friendly and experienced therapists.

They will guide you through the process, answer any questions and work with you to understand exactly what you’re after. We like to tailor our treatments to meet your goals. 

We use gentle yet effective techniques to target key areas of the face and neck, promoting relaxation, reducing tension, and improving skin health. We want you to leave us feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the day. 

The Tools We Use

For your massage, your therapist will use the 2 tools they’ve got. Their hands are the most effective implements, and there’s real power in the human touch.

On occasion, we can break out the ‘’gua sha’’ for you to try. It’s really good at stimulating lymphatic drainage, and some like its feel against their skin.

Jade rollers can also feel quite pleasant when run around the eyes or over the forehead.

Our Techniques

Face massage is a relatively new treatment here in the west. But out in Asia, they’ve been at it for centuries, and its techniques have been handed down through the years.

At Diamond Thai, our therapists know them all and use a variety, both old and new, to help promote relaxation, enhance skin health, and soothe the senses. 

Your massage will include some, if not all, of the most common techniques, including:

  • Temple rotations: This is the one we all do ourselves when we have a headache. It’s an excellent warmup to soothe and relax you before the more serious work begins.
  • Effleurage: This technique from Swedish massage is used to warm up cold muscles. It involves long, sweeping strokes done with the flat of the hand and fingers. Its light friction increases the flow in the lymphatic system, calms the nervous system and promotes relaxation. 
  • Petrissage: This is where the hard work begins, and deeper pressure is applied to the underlying muscle in your face. It involves gentle kneading, squeezing and rolling movements that help release tension, free up tissue movement and promote deeper relaxation. 
  • Friction: This technique involves circular or back-and-forth movements that help warm muscles and increase circulation. It can be particularly effective for targeting specific areas of tension, such as the forehead or jawline.
  • Tapotement: As its name suggests, this involves light tapping or percussive movements that help to invigorate your skin and promote circulation. It can also help to relieve sinus pressure and stimulate lymphatic drainage.
  • Facial acupressure: Your therapist applies pressure to specific points on the face to promote relaxation, reduce tension, and improve the flow of energy throughout the body.

All the techniques listed above follow your face’s bone structure and shape, and each can target a different area.

You’ve got over 90 facial mussels and wear the same expression most of the time, so most of them get absolutely no exercise.

This means the veins and capillaries get lazy, don’t do their job and could be the cause of bad circulation.

At Diamond Thai, our face massage is designed to target the whole range of muscle groups on the face and neck to promote relaxation, reduce tension, and elevate the condition of your skin. Some of the most common areas we focus on include:

Forehead Massage

We use a variety of techniques like temple rotations, tapotement and acupressure. This helps release tension in the muscles of the forehead, which can help to reduce stress and improve circulation to the area.

Eye Rubs

If you suffer from puffiness, tiredness or black lines around your eyes, our therapist will use methods like acupressure, effleurage and petrissage to help reduce their appearance. A good massage around the eye can feel wonderful and is an excellent way to promote overall relaxation and rejuvenation.

Cheeks Massage

We use a combination of long, sweeping strokes and circular motions to help tone and lift the muscles of the cheeks. This helps bring the blood back to your face and hopefully promotes a more youthful and radiant appearance.

We use kneading and rolling movements to help release tension in the jawline muscles, which can help reduce headaches and promote relaxation throughout the body.

Neck

We extend our face massage right down to your neck and shoulders to help relieve tension in these often-overlooked areas. This can help reduce stiffness and improve circulation to your head and face.

The Oils and Creams We Use

We only recommend the use of natural plant-based oils during our face massage. Not only do they soothe the skin, but they also replace any oil your skin’s already lost while preventing you from losing any more.

They not only nourish, but some give you extra rewards because of their anti-oxidant, inflammatory and bacterial properties.

We don’t like to use anything petroleum or paraffin-based, including baby oil, they tend to stick like glue and block pores.

Feel free to bring your favourite product along. We don’t charge corkage and will happily use it for you.

Here’s a quick list of what we have available in our studio.

  • Coconut oil: This natural oil is known for its nourishing and hydrating qualities and is often used to help soothe and moisturise the skin. It’s been shown to have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Plus, it’s solid at room temperature, so we won’t spill it all over you.
  • Sweet almond oil: This oil is rich in vitamins and minerals that help to support skin health and is often used to help reduce inflammation and promote a healthy, glowing complexion.
  • Jojoba oil: This oil is similar in structure to the natural oils produced by the skin and is often used to help balance oil production and support overall skin health.
  • Shea butter: This natural butter is rich in vitamins and antioxidants that help to nourish and protect the skin and is often used to help soothe dry or sensitive skin.

We choose the oils and creams we use in our face massage treatments carefully so they can nourish, hydrate, and soothe your skin.

The All Important Aftercare

More than any other type of massage taking care of yourself after a face massage is essential to get its full benefits. 

Here’s a few things to remember after you leave us.

First off, avoid touching or rubbing your face immediately after the massage. It can spread oils into open pores and potentially cause irritation or inflammation.

Don’t go straight to the gym, either. You don’t want sweat rolling down your newly massaged face for exactly the same reason.

It goes without saying that you should avoid wearing makeup or other products for the rest of the day too. It allows your skin to fully absorb the benefits of the massage.

Hydrate to flush your system of toxins, avoid caffeine and alcohol and just chill. Allow your body to integrate the experience, heal and rejuvenate fully.
